In the many links of the Medellín cartel, many of these unknown agents came to light only years after when things started breaking loose for the organization headed by PEG.

José Fernando, believably already a direct contact during the 80's came to higher posts of importance in the 90's especially during and after the incarceration of Pablo who held him accountable for the management of 'oficinas' for the cartel and the control of routes like 'La Fany' (originally created by Gustavo Gaviria).

Needless to reiterate, these managements worked with other collaborators and multiple intermediators, some of whom were "purged" in the internal confrontations with the deaths of Kiko and Galeano in 1992, leaving only the assigned by Pablo in the control of trafficking.

All together, though it could be said José Fernando "succeeded" Gustavo Gaviria in some way, his position couldn't be compared with the one of Gustavo's, who were in side with Escobar in terms of being the real 'amos del traqueteo'(the king barons) and two of the main faces of "The Extraditables".

'Fierrito' surrended in 1993. Paid time in prison with other lieutenants and was granted liberty some years after. Information regarding his current whereabouts or if he's still alive are conflicting.
